Combo Conditions

CommitT does not force a fixed enforcement template. Instead, it provides a modular condition system where Time, Location, and App Blocking can be mixed and matched in any combination to suit different commitment types.

Condition Matrix

Time is required for all scheduled commitments, but Location and App Block are independently optional.

Penalties Are Optional

Any combination above can be created with or without a penalty attached. A commitment without a penalty functions as a self-tracking tool — the user can see whether they honored their schedule, but no consequence triggers on failure. Adding a penalty transforms a soft commitment into a binding contract with real stakes.

Per-Slot Granularity

Within a single commitment, different time slots can use different condition combinations. This means a single “Weekday Routine” commitment can model an entire daily schedule where each activity has its own enforcement profile: The morning gym slot does not block any apps because the user needs their phone for workout music. The afternoon deep work slot blocks everything. The evening review slot has no penalty — it is a soft commitment.

Example

A user wants to ensure they study at the library every afternoon but does not care about app blocking (they use their laptop, not their phone). They create:
  • Time: Mon–Fri, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Location: University Library
  • App Block: None
  • Verification: Just Show Up, 10-min grace
  • Penalty: Embarrassing Photo
This is a Time + Location combo without App Blocking. The user must physically be at the library within 10 minutes of 2:00 PM, but their phone is unrestricted.
